History and Geography
Portuguese ruled Daman and Diu along with Goa. After India gained independence in 1961, Daman and Diu was made as an integral part of India. But during 30th May 1987 Goa gained statehood and subsequently Daman and Diu was made as separate Union Territory. Daman, being situated 193 kms from Mumbai and bordered by Gujarat in east and Arabian Sea in the West and Kolak River on the North and Kalai River on the South and adjacent to Valsad district of Gujarat. On the other hand Diu is well connected by two bridges and neighbouring to Junagadh District of Gujarat.
Cultivation :
Paddy, ragi, bajra, jowar, groundnut, pulses and beans, wheat, banana, sapota, mango, chickoo, coconut and sugarcane are the main cultivation.

Daman have 191 kms road and Diu with 78 kms. road.
Railways :
Daman and Diu is not connected with railway network but nearest railway station is at Vapi, along the Western Railway at Mumbai to Delhi route. Nearest station is Delvada (metre gauge)
Airports :
Daman and Diu connected by air and regular services are available from Mumbai to Diu.
Tourism :
Important tourist places in Daman are as under: Bom Jesus Church, Our Lady of Sea Church; Our Lady of Remedios Church; Forts of Moti Daman and Nani Daman; Jampore and Devka Beaches; Public Garden and Moti Daman Jetty, Pargola Garden, Moti Daman, Amusement Park, Devka; Damanganga Tourist Complex, Kachigam; Satya Sagar Udyan, Mirasol Garden, Mirasal Water Park.
In Diu, St. Paul's Church; Diu Fort and Panikota Fort; Nagoa and Chakratirth and Children's park at Ghoghla and Summer House are famous places of tourist interest.
